      UQ LIBRARY:

      • From 2008, UQ doctoral and research master's theses are submitted electronically and available online in the UQ Library's eSpace repository.
      • Until 2007, the UQ Library received a paper copy of each doctoral and research master's thesis. Some of these were also made available online at the Australasian Digital Theses website (see below).
      • Some honours theses are also available on paper in the Library or online at eSpace.
      • Most paper theses are located in the UQ Library's special collections in the Fryer Library.
      • The Library catalogue lists all paper theses held by the Library, and all doctoral and research master's theses in eSpace.
      • To locate a thesis on a particular topic in the Library catalogue:
        • Go the Library catalogue.
        • Under More Catalogue Options, click on the Theses heading.
        • Type your keyword(s) in the search box.
      • To locate a thesis on eSpace:
        • Go to eSpace
        • Click on the Search tab.
        • Type your terms in the search boxes.
        • Browse down to the Collection box and select the Open access collection of UQ Honours, Masters and PhD Theses or the UQ Thesis Collection (MPhil and PhD). You can select more than one collection by holding down the Ctrl key.

      UQ SCHOOLS:
        Many theses are also housed within collections in University of Queensland schools. Contact the appropriate school for information about these.

      The Australasian Digital Thesis Program is a comprehensive repository of Australian PhD and research Master's theses, to be augmented over time by New Zealand theses. It provides access to:

      • 140,000 Australian theses
      • Over 21,000 available online

      Go to the ADT website to search the database. You can check the Digital only box to restrict your search to online theses.

      UQ students can go to our ADT Program website for information on depositing their own thesis.

      Another way of searching for Australian theses is to use the Libraries Australia database, which lists the holdings of most university libraries in Australia.

      Type your search terms in the search box, and add thesis at the end, e.g. inclusive education thesis

      For theses from the United Kingdom and Ireland, use the Index to Theses database.

      This is a comprehensive listing (with abstracts) of theses accepted for higher degrees by universities in Great Britain and Ireland since 1716. Abstracts are available from 1970 onwards.

      ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (formerly known as Dissertation Abstracts International) is the main database for non-Australian theses.

      Features:

      • Contains more than 2 million citations to theses accepted for doctoral and master's degrees by accredited North American educational institutions and many European universities.
      • Lists U.S. dissertations from 1861 onwards.
      • From 1980 the database includes abstracts, written by the author.
      • In many cases, the first 24 pages of the thesis are available for free viewing online, and full download is available for a fee.

      • Many electronic databases and printed indexes include records for dissertations.
      • Some educational institutions, research groups and professional associations now list the bibliographic details of completed student theses on their web pages. In some cases an online full text copy is also available. University e-print servers may also contain theses in full text.

    Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations
    Provides access to free, electronic full-text of some theses from participating universities.

    Registry of Open Access Repositories
    Use the drop-down menu under Any Content Type to select e-Theses. This will display a list of institutional repositories around the world containing electronic versions of theses.

    Theses Canada
    Database of Canadian theses since 1965. Many are available free online.

    German Theses
    German theses since 1945 are listed in the catalogue of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek
