By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Search and retrieve company information from Connect 4 and Aspect Huntley databases
- Use the Library as a gateway to identify websites that provide company information
Business and Economics Databases
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify databases relevant to Business and Economics
- Locate databases on the Library website
- Construct effective search strategies using Boolean operators and Truncation
- Limit search results
- Link to full text articles
- Identify where to go for further help
Citation Databases
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Access the Web of Knowledge portal via the Library
- Identify what a citation database is
- Effectively conduct general and cited reference searches
- Analyse results
- Link to full text articles via the UQ Library
- Export records
International Company Information
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify relevant databases for international company information
- Search and retrieve company information from Mergent and Osiris databases
- Search and retrieve company news from Factiva
Market Research Reports
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Use Global Market Information Database (GMID) and Business Source Premier to locate market research reports
- Identify the most likely of these databases to contain a particular report based on an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each database
Newspaper Databases
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Locate and access newspapers using Library gateways
- Search and retrieve articles on companies and business topics from Factiva
Statistics and Data
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify various library guides and gateways to statistical resources
- Search and browse the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website to find Australian statistics
- Construct a basic search for international data on several international databases
- Identify the appropriate library contacts for further help with statistical data in their area
RSS Feeds
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify what RSS technology is and how to use it through a web-based reader
- Set up citation, search and table-of-contents alerts for a range of different journal platforms
- Access feeds for various specialised information sources
- Identify further avenues for finding RSS feeds for research topics
