What is an offair broadcast?
- Offair broadcasts are television and radio programs broadcast received in
Australia after the 29th January 1990
- Offair broadcast material is collected under our Screenrights licence to
support the teaching and research by staff and students of the University of
Queensland.
Broadcast sources
- The main channels recorded are ABC1, ABC2, Seven, Nine, Ten, SBS1, and SBS2
- Additionally, programs from Foxtel, ABC24, ABC3, Go!, GEM, Seven
Two, Seven
Mate, One HD, Eleven, Briz31, and Radio can be recorded on a
pre-broadcast request basis
- A weekly television highlights email is available upon request, please
ask us to add you to the list
Requesting an offair broadcast
Can I request an offair broadcast?
- If you are an academic or a research higher degree student you
may request offair broadcasts for your teaching and research.
How do I request an offair broadcast for my teaching and/or research?
- To request an offair broadcast for your teaching and research send an
email with all the broadcast information: channel, date, time, title etc. to
offairs@library.uq.edu.au
What happens next with my request?
- Offair broadcasts requested for teaching will be added to the UQ Library
collection. Check the library catalogue for availability
- Offair broadcasts added to the collection, depending on original source,
will be available in the following mediums: DVDs (video), CDs (audio) and
streaming video or audio
- Offair broadcasts requested for research will only be provided when the
requestor supplies an external hard drive or DVDs
Requesting a conversion from VHS to DVD/Video stream
- Offair recordings available in the library, broadcast after the 29
January 1990, on VHS can be converted to a DVD or video stream by the
Multimedia Service.
- Offair recordings broadcast prior to the 29 January 1990, have the
possibility of being converted under section 200AB of the Copyright Act but
strict conditions need to be met. Contact the Multimedia Librarian for
further assistance.
- Commercial VHS/DVD material cannot be converted to other formats.
However under special circumstances it maybe possible. Contact the Multimedia
Librarian for further assistance.

External institutions and Document Delivery
External institutions
- Institutions (Universities, TAFE, Schools) that are signatories to the
Screenrights licence can request for copies of offair broadcasts in the UQ
Library collection.
- A cost recovery processing fee applies to any requests for copying.
- To request an offair broadcast for your institution send an email with
broadcast information: item call number, channel, date, time, title
etc. to offairs@library.uq.edu.au
Document Delivery
- Offair recordings are not available through document delivery. A copy can
be made for your institution.
