About the Course Materials Service

The Library's Course Materials Service provides for the:

  • submission
  • processing
  • copyright management, and
  • electronic access to individual course readings in books and journals, from online and print sources

What you need to do

  • As per UQ Policies and Procedures Library (PPL) 3.10.03 , The Course Profile, provide reading lists to your Course Materials Service at least 12 weeks before each semester commences. The Library prefers reading lists to be submitted 6-8 weeks prior to the start of semester.
  • Annotate the list with:
    • which readings on your list are part of course readers (these will not be reproduced electronically)
    • provide as much bibliographic information about each item as you can, including the call number
    • resources which are Required, Recommended, Essential or compulsory reading. The Library will link these items to the Library Course Resources page. Items which are labelled as Supplemental, Further, Other, Additional, General or similar will be linked if already in the collection. If necessary the list will also be forwarded to the appropriate Teaching and Learning Services librarian to be assessed for collection development purposes.
    • UQ Library has an e-preferred collection development policy, with ebooks added to the Course Resources list instead of converting a physical item to High Use for Required items, subject to suitability of ebook model. More useful information about ebooks can be found here.
    • If available, please supply bound copies of course readers:
      • Print on Demand will supply a copy to the Library as an automatic deposit
      • Workbooks and Learning Guides will not be retained in the collection

    How to submit Reading Lists

    Turnaround time

We aim to process your reading lists as soon as possible. Lists submitted electronically are easier to process and will be ready more quickly. Lists submitted close to or in the first few weeks of semester, when it is very busy, may take some time to process. If material is out on loan, or has to be purchased, it will take longer to process. Reading lists can be submitted throughout the year which will help spread the time available for purchasing and processing material.
