Scholarly Publications Update - School Review Information Session

To support UQ Schools undergoing formal review in 2013, UQ Library is hosting an information session to demonstrate how to get the most out of research publication data.

China on track for #2 most influential country in science publishing by 2014

nature.jpgAccording to the Nature Publishing Index 2011, China now publishes more than 6% of papers published in Nature journals. In 2011, 225 of the 3425 papers published in Nature journals were represented by China.

Roll on Open Access: Elsevier withdraws support for the Research Works Act

Elsevier has announced that it has withdrawn its support for the US Research Works Act (HR 3699). In their announcement they explain: We are ready and willing to work constructively and cooperatively to continue to promote free and low-cost public access through a variety of means, as we have with research funders and other partners around the world.

Research is good for us

Public investment in higher education and research has a positive impact on economic growth and social wellbeing, according to a new report from Research Councils UK and Universities UK. Big Ideas for the Future explores new research in the UK and the impact breakthrough research - growing new organs, tackling worklessness - will have on people's lives over the next twenty years.

The 2010 Journal Citations Reports (JCR) have just been released.

Supporting Research

Librarians can support researchers through all stages of their research process. This includes providing advice on the information aspects of research, helping researchers stay up to date with research in their discipline ares, developing collections to meet their research needs, advising on open access and data management, and helping researchers to make the most of bibliographic management tools such as EndNote and a range of other online tools which can improve the processes of discovering, gathering, creating and sharing information.
