A Website for Australian Scientists to become Media Savvy

Science Media SAVVY: Helping scientists work effectively with the news media. The Australian Science Media Centre has launched a free online website to help scientists work with the news media, it is hoped that this will become a valuable resource that scientist can turn to when asked for media requests.

The website includes:

JournalTOCs - journal table of contents for researchers

journaltocs.pngJournalTOCs is the largest, free collection of scholarly journal Tables of Contents (TOCs): 17,266 journals (including 2,718 selected Open Access journals) from 946 publishers.

Eternity in a grain of sand

Sand is tiny fragments of rock that have been worn away over thousands of years. As pictures from the UK Daily Mail show, sand, when viewed at a magnification of over 250 times real life, is not at all plain or uniform, but is made up of tiny pieces of rock that glow like delicate jewels.

Dental attendance patterns and oral health status - AIHW Report

The report, "Dental attendance patterns and oral health status" released last week found that "forty per cent of Australian adults visit the dentist at least once a year for a check-up while nearly 30% visit infrequently and usually for a dental problem. Those with an unfavourable pattern of dental attendance had more than 3 times the level of untreated decay and 1.6 times more teeth missing due to dental disease than those with a favourable pattern of attendance.
