'Linked data' is a term for technologies and standards that make data available online easy to combine or 'mash up'. Interviews with researchers from a range of disciplines explore how research has changed. In Projects, visitors can see examples of collaborative digital projects that push the boundaries of research. Following the recent deadly E. coli outbreaks in Europe, researchers have released the first complete map of the genome and plasmids. The data set is being released under a public domain licence and has a DOI to make it easier to cite.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration investigates the evolving state of ocean carbon chemistry via high quality measurements on ships and autonomous platforms. A Data Portal on the site allows researchers to examine the data collected thus far, along with historical data sets. The site lists ongoing research projects and observations on changes.
