The Getty Research Portal provides global access to digitised art history texts in the public domain. The ARTstor Digital Library is a searchable database of digital images and associated data. It contains more than one million digital images in the subject areas of painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, design and many other forms of visual culture. Users can search, view, download, organise and share images.

Visual Arts Data Service (VADS)

VADS has built up a considerable portfolio of visual art collections comprising over 100,000 images that are freely available and copyright cleared for use in learning, teaching and research in the UK.

Picture Australia

Picture Australia is an Internet based service that allows many significant online pictorial collections to be searched at the same time. When a search is conducted on Picture Australia, thumbnail images are retrieved from participating institutions on the fly and inserted into search results.

Bridgeman Image Library

With images from over 8,000 collections and more than 29,000 artists, the Bridgeman Image Library represents international museums, galleries and artists by providing a central source of fine art for image users.

ArtSource is a gathering point for networked resources on Art and Architecture. The content is diverse and includes pointers to resources around the net as well as original materials submitted by librarians, artists, and art historians. This site is intended to be selective, rather than comprehensive.

Wilson Art Abstracts

Duke University has created a Dictionary of Art Historians. This listing of historic scholars, museum professionals, and academic historians of western art history not only lists significant people, but also provides information on where they trained, who influenced them, and their methodology. The site is available in German, French, Dutch, and Italian as well as English.
