The Big Spend uses data to provide an interactive view of the more than half a billion dollars Australian government agencies spent on consultants between 2008 and 2011.

State of the media

The Pew Research Center has just released its annual The State of the News Media report. The 2011 report shows that while American media revenue improved in 2010, and newsroom cutbacks eased, newspapers were still badly hit, with further job losses threatened.

Some experiments with new revenue models began to blossom. However, the report asks the question of whether, in the digital realm, the news industry is actually in control of its future.
