Strategic Plan

Team meetings #15 to #18

The Strategic Planning Team has met four times since the managers' 2.5 planning days. The team is now using sticky notes to consolidate the strategies captured.

In speaking with Prof Terry (Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor), Bob (University Librarian) requested that input from the process be articulated around library-specific themes. Operational activities will be moved to the 2014 Library Operational Plan. The strategic plan is still firmly based on the University's three key themes of Learning, Discovery and Engagement.

Feedback from a colleague in the US

The team were very pleased to receive the following email from an overseas colleague:

I'm a librarian in Denver, Colorado in the US and we are working on strategic planning at my library too. My library director shared your process with me and after discussing with our library leadership team, we would like to gather input from our users via the "genie" idea that you all used. We loved that idea - we thought it was clever, simple, and engaging.

2.5 day strategic planning session for managers

Over May 28th to 30th, Library Managers attended a 2.5 day strategic planning session in the UQ Library Conference Room, facilitated by Brett Mayze. More details on the Strategic Planning website.

Team meetings #13 and #14

Meetings held 17/5 (Brett Mayze and Bob Gerrity also present) and 21/5, to finalise strategic planning workshop for managers (held over 2.5 days, 28-30 May).

The team reviewed the schedule, content and speakers. Brett's pre-workshop reading and exercise were discussed. Documents to be forwarded to participants in the next 24 hours.

By the end of the workshop, a scorecard quadrant will have been drafted.

Team meeting #12

Team members met with Brett Mayze on 10/5 to debrief, following the four stakeholder focus group meetings on May 2nd and 3rd; and to discuss the next steps.

Focus groups:

The four scenarios, and the reports from each focus group, can be accessed from the Strategic Planning 2013 website (see under 'What's been happening'; entry for May 2-3).

Genie Wishes and Tagline forms to close Friday 17th May

Last call to lodge your Genie wishes and tagline suggestions!

The two forms will be closed at 5pm on Friday May 17th.

Thank you to all who have contributed so far: lots of grist for the strategic planning mill.

Focus groups

Four stakeholder focus groups met last week, to provide feedback on the four UQ Library future scenarios written by Library staff. Sandra Rothwell attended all four groups. At least one other strategic planning team member attended with her.

Brett Mayze facilitated the groups, and captured discussion. His report will provide important input to the rest of the planning process.

The strategic planning team will meet to debrief later this week.

Team meeting #11

Brett Mayze, consulting psychologist working on the strategic planning process, met with the team on Tuesday 30/4.

Brett asked that the wording of the four scenarios be altered slightly, so as to provoke stronger reactions at the stakeholder focus groups. This is common practice, and can be seen in the examples provided to the Scenario Writing Group (e.g. from the ARL)

Team meeting #10

Held 23/4. Members discussed the four completed future Library scenarios, prepared by a group of eight Library volunteers. The documents will be used in the four stakeholder focus groups, on May 2nd and 3rd. Mary will submit a bouquet to eLinks, expressing appreciation of the writing group's efforts.
