Journal Articles
For recent information, journal articles are often the best sources. Looking through individual journals in the hope of finding relevant material is time-consuming. It is better to use the databases to find articles on your topic.
SPORTDiscus: a bibliographic database covering sport, physical fitness, exercise, sports medicine, sports science, physical education, biomechanics and more. It indexes books, journals and conference proceedings. The database comprises a number of files including Atalantes, Heracles and the Olympic Museum Library databases.
PubMed: PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It includes citations for biomedical articles and provides citations and abstracts to biomedical literature including research, clinical practice, administration, policy issues, and healthcare services.
PsycINFO: covers the academic, research and practice literature in psychology from over 45 countries in more than 30 languages. It includes materials from related disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, education, social work, law, criminology, social science, and organizational behavior.
Medline: Ovid MEDLINE provides citations and abstracts to biomedical literature including research, clinical practice, administration, policy issues, and healthcare services
Sociological Abstracts: Provides access to findings in theoretical and applied sociology, social science, and policy science. Abstracts approximately 2500 journals, covering sociological topics in fields such as anthropology, economics, education, medicine, community development, philosophy, demography, political science, and social psychology.
ERIC: national bibliographic database covering the literature of education. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, ERIC consists of two files: Resources in Education (RIE), covering the document literature, and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE), covering the published journal literature from over 775 periodicals. The database also includes the full text of ERIC Digest records.

Web of Science: Provides access to current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from high impact research journals. Web of Science also provides a unique search method, cited reference searching. Scopus: a multidisciplinary abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources. Subject coverage includes chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, life and health sciences, psychology, economics, social sciences, and biological and agricultural sciences. Journals
Once you have found your journal articles, you may need to search the Library catalogue for the journal name
e.g. Journal of Sports Sciences.
Use the Title search in the Catalogue. Remember that many journals are now available in full text online through the Library Catalogue. Many are also linked directly from within your database search.
