The University of Queensland Library
      Newspaper Information

    Getting started:

The UQ Library is a major research library and holds newspapers from Australia and other countries. They are primarily held in the Social Sciences & Humanities Library (SS&H).

As well as Newspaper Information, The UQ Library has produced a News "How-to" guide to help you find current and past News from a variety of sources (e.g. ABC, BBC, Cnn, etc.)

Current printed copies are held in various locations within the Library until a microfilm version is available and the print copies are discarded. The following information will help you find print or microfilm copies of newspapers held in the UQ Library.

Newspapers (current print copy, latest 2 weeks) New Books & Periodicals Display Area in the Social Sciences and Humanities Library
Newspapers (print copies, latest 2-3 months) Level 2, SS&H Library
Newspapers (microfilm, 1800s onwards) Fryer Library, Duhig Building

To find if the UQ Library subscribes to a particular newspaper do a title search in the catalogue by newspaper name. This will tell you which years the Library holds, which Branch Libraries have copies, and the newspaper’s microfilm number. It will also show whether the newspaper articles are available electronically through databases to which the UQ Library subscribes.

For example, a title search for The Courier-Mail shows that this newspaper is available in various formats:

Print copies of the actual newspaper Courier-Mail (Current issues only) Journal AN312 .C66 (SS&H/Ipswich/Gatton)
Older copies available on microfilm Courier-Mail (Microfilm) (1864 onwards) Fryer MIC2821
Electronic copies of some articles available through databases Courier-Mail The Library catalogue displays the various databases that give access to the newspaper articles.
Electronic copies of some articles available through databases or on the internet Courier-Mail (Current issue only) The Library catalogue not only links to the current issue on the Internet but also displays the various databases that give access to the newspaper articles.
