 Welcome

Welcome to the University of Queensland Library. The University of Queensland Library is recognised for its combination of physical and virtual spaces, print, multimedia and online information resources and in-person and online assistance. It has one of the largest collections amongst academic libraries in Australia and by far the largest in Queensland.

  • 9,963 print journals and 51,288 electronic journals
  • 976 networked databases to guide you to journal content
  • Multiple copies of textbooks held, including copies in High Use Collections for quick access
  • 399,083 electronic books
  • 34,458 videos
  • Comprehensive quick reference collection
  • Extensive manuscript, microform and pictorial collections

 What can I use?

Anyone can use most of the on-site collections and services at any branch library. Access to electronic resources is restricted by licence conditions. Please ensure that you have read the Library Conditions of Use.

Material from UQ's closed access collections (Warehouse) can be requested through your local library or the National Library of Australia's Copies Direct service.

 Which branch library?

The Library comprises 13 subject-based branch libraries, located on the St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich campuses and in three teaching hospitals. In addition, it has an eZone, several warehouses for lesser-used material, as well as the University Archives and the AskIT Service.

Borrowing

Community borrowing entitles you to generous borrowing privileges to facilitate your research. It costs $495 per year or $250 for 6 months (GST inclusive). Find out more by reading the borrowing guide.

Students and staff from other Australian universities may be eligible for reciprocal borrowing.

Passwords

To access Library computers you will need to login:

  • Name - guest
  • Password - leave blank

Access to the Internet

Due to the Telecommunications Act, the Library is unable to provide the general community with access to the Internet.

We recommend that you register with your local public library or the State Library of Queensland.

Access to Electronic Resources

From branch libraries - access is available to a limited number of the Library's databases and electronic journals licensed for access by walk-in users.

From home - commercial licences for databases and ejournals restrict access from home to UQ staff and students.

Do-it-Yourself

Access a wide variety of do-it-yourself guides, including:

  • Information guides - Subject and "How to" guides, including citation style guides
  • software tutorials
  • how to search the Internet
