The University Library is the largest library in Queensland, and one of the largest in Australia. Thirteen branches serve the St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses and the Brisbane teaching hospitals.
The Library's comprehensive collections include books and journals (print and electronic), hundreds of networked databases, thousands of videos, and many internet resources. Free training in the use of computers and effective information access and use is provided. Resources and services are easily accessible from hundreds of computers in the branch libraries, home, student accommodation and teaching laboratories.
The Library provides specialist materials and services for international students and allocates staff specifically to help you make the most of our resources and services.

If you are a currently enrolled student at the University of Queensland, your student card automatically entitles you to borrow material from any University of Queensland branch library.
Students enrolled in the Foundation year program can apply online using the application form for Foundation Year membership.

The Library comprises 13 subject-based branch libraries, located on the St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich campuses and in three teaching hospitals. In addition, it has an eZone, several warehouses for lesser-used material, as well as the University Archives and the AskIT Service.

Students borrow from the collection by presenting their student cards. Generous borrowing privileges facilitate student learning.

To access some Library services, you will need to prove that you are a member of the University of Queensland Library.
To borrow, you will need your student card.
For the following online activities:
- Placing requests via the catalogue on items that are currently on loan
- Checking, renewing loans, cancelling holds and checking document delivery requests
- Accessing some databases, electronic journals and electronic books (licenses restrict access to current UQ staff and students)
you will need either:
- UQ username and password; or
- Library number and PIN

You may need to access material in languages other than English. The Library has installed software called Microsoft Global IME to enable languages using different scripts, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Thai, Russian and Vietnamese.
Help is available on how to use the software.
Many staff speak more than one language and may be able to assist you in your own language. Please visit Language Help, or ask at the Information Desk of any branch library for more information on which languages are spoken by our staff members. Staff are regularly trained in cross-cultural communication to improve the quality of our service.
If you use Microsoft computer applications—such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint—you can activate Microsoft Global IME, which allows you to write in languages other than English.

Success in your studies is dependent on the ability to locate and analyse relevant resources. Teaching emphasises problem-solving and independent research.
The Library offers a range of information skills training to help you conduct your own research effectively:
- Tours and Orientation sessions
- Discovering the Library - a one-hour introductory class on using the Library's website including the catalogue
- Enhancing your Assignments - a one-hour class on using databases to find information for your assignment
- Mastering your Research Skills - a one-hour class on using the Internet effectively and efficiently
- Information Skills for Researchers and Postgraduates - a ten-hour modular course covering information retrieval, databases, citation indexes, Internet skills and personal reference databases

Liaison librarians work closely with lecturers and run tailored information skills classes within specific courses.
Librarians work with Learning Advisers at the University's Student Support Services to help students become independent and confident learners able to achieve their academic goals. The Learning Assistance staff help students to understand the standards and demands of the educational system and to develop appropriate approaches to meet these demands.
