Category Explanation
Higher degree candidates; deferring postgraduates
UQ students enrolled in not-accredited courses
  • Includes the Community Access Program
  • The cost is $11 per week for the duration of the course
  • Complete the application form
Retired UQ staff
  • Must have ceased paid work as an employee, contractor or consultant
  • Includes professors emeritus, as well as other retired staff who have worked at UQ for at least 10 consecutive years
  • Membership is free, but needs to be renewed annually
  • Complete the application form and submit to any branch library
Visiting academics attached to a UQ School/Centre (but not on the UQ staff system)
Alumni Friends of UQ
  • The cost is $140 per year or $90 for 6 months (GST inclusive) - not refundable
  • Complete the application form
  • You will need to present proof of Alumni Friends of UQ membership when you pick-up your Library card
Reciprocal borrowers
  • Staff and eligible students (see below) from a university that is a member of the University Libraries Australia agreement may apply. There is a $50 (GST inclusive) registration charge (payable each year) for students. Eligible students from Griffith University or the Queensland University of Technology whose fee is subsidised may present a letter from their home institution that will exempt them from the $50 payment.
  • Complete the application form
  • You will need to provide photo ID and proof of eligibility, for example confirmation of enrolment or current pay slip

Eligible students:

  • External undergraduate from a university outside the Brisbane Metropolitan area
  • Internal undergraduate from an interstate university.
  • A higher degree student (Masters or PhD).
General public (including Open University students)
  • The cost is $200 per year or $150 for 6 months (GST inclusive) - not refundable
  • Complete the application form
  • You will need to present a photo ID, as well as proof of local residency, such as a recent local council rates notice, or local utility payment notice when you pick-up your Library card

Library card and password

  • You will receive a UQ Library card
  • Upon receipt of your card, you will be asked to add a password to your library record. This is essential to ensure the security of your record.
