What publication data is submitted to the ERA?

For the 2009 Trial, the submission for each cluster has included publications which:

      a. are authored by one or more UQ staff who were employed at UQ on 31 March 2008 AND
      b. were published between 2002 and 2007 AND
      c. are in disciplines defined by FoR codes that fall within the relevant clusters AND
      d. meet the definition of research (provide link) AND
      e. are one of the following: a book, a book chapter, a journal article on the ranked journal list, a conference paper or (for HCA only) a creative work.

Further, in the 2009 ERA trial, only journal articles which are in journals on the ranked journal list were eligible for submission. The Field of Research (FoR) for journal articles is determined by the FoR codes attached to the journal listing on the ARC ranked journal list. For all other outputs the FoR code was assigned by the submitting institution. Up to three four digit FoR codes were able to be assigned to research outputs other than journal articles.

The ERA is expected to provide evaluation at the four digit FoR level for each institution where there are sufficient outputs i.e where the number of outputs exceeds the low volume threshold. For the trial, this is set at 50 for areas in which citation metrics are to be used, and 20 for areas where peer review will be implemented.
