Advice and support

Library services

The Library has two services that support data management :

  • The Research Information Service
    The Research Information Service supports researchers throughout the research life cycle. Librarians can visit, advise and consult with you on data management, as well as develop citation analyses for grant and promotion applications. The Library also houses UQ's copyright lawyer, who maintains a website relating to information on copyright.
  • The Scholarly Publications and Digitisation Service
    The Scholarly Publications and Digitisation Service manages the UQ eSpace repository and provides advice on scholarly publications, citation metrics, research data management, and digitisation. This unit runs training, and provides advice and referrals.

Research and Innovation Division

The Division provides administrative services for research and innovation, and manages research grants and research contracts, the Animal Welfare Unit, and human ethics applications and clearances. The Division includes Research Legal services.

Information Technology Service (ITS)

UQ has a High Performance Computing facility, which offers data storage, estimation of data volumes and a range of advice to researchers.

UQ Graduate School

The UQ Graduate School offers practical research training to postgraduate students through a series of workshops, seminars and milestone events.

Right to Information and Privacy Office

UQ's Right to Information and Privacy Co-ordinator can provide advice and resources on privacy legislation, information privacy principles and other privacy-related issues.

Managers, Innovation and Commercial Development

MICDs run commercialisation workshops and seminars, assess the commercial value of research, advise on intellectual property rights, and assist with marketing, deal negotiation and reward sharing.

Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)

Staff in this office are working with other UQ stakeholders to develop UQ's data management policy. UQ's Research Integrity Officer is based here.

There are many good online tutorials to teach yourself data management, such as Research Data MANTRA, a course designed for PhD students and others who are planning a research project using digital data.

The Queensland Cyber-Infrastructure Foundation
(QCIF) provides access to and support for eResearch services, data storage and management, high performance computing, and cloud services.
