Adding text before and after a citation

Adding Text before a Citation:

This is only applicable to author-date styles. Eg. APA 6th style.

  1. Click on the in-text citation (eg. Smith, 2011) you want to add text to. This will be highlighted once selected.
  2. Click on the Edit & Manage Citation(s) button and the dialogue box will open.
  3. In the box labelled Prefix type in the text you require - for example type: See also
  4. You must type a space after the See also to ensure that there is a space between the prefixed text and the citation in the document.
  5. Click on the OK button, and EndNote will reformat the citation with the prefixed text. Don't forget to save the changes to your document.

Adding Text after a Citation:

This is only applicable to author-date styles.

  1. Click on the in-text citation (eg. Smith, 2011) you want to add text to. This will be highlighted once selected.
  2. Click on the Edit & Manage Citation(s) button and the dialogue box will open.
  3. In the Suffix text box type in the required text - generally this will be a page number-for example type: p. 23
  4. You must type a space before "p." to ensure that there is space between the citation in the document and the suffix.
  5. Click on the OK button, and EndNote will format the citation with the text after the citation. Remember to save the changes in your document.
