The Ocean Strategy of Modern Australia in the View of Geopolitical Theories

Abstract

The representative geopolitical theories of “sea power”, “land power”, “marginal zone” and the geopolitical scholars’ views towards ocean and sea power are briefly introduced. Analyze the ocean strategy of modern Australia by the following five aspects: the status of Australian maritime geopolitical strategy; the ocean “policy” since the establishment of federal government; the implementation background of Australian ocean strategy; the dispute of Australian maritime interests and its settlement by negotiation and the development of Australian naval forces. Discuss and conclude the spirit of Australian ocean strategy and its geopolitical interests and geo-economic interests.
