Elements of the citation

Name/s of author/s, editor/s, compiler/s or the institution responsible.Title of publication and subtitle if any. Edition abbreviated to ed., if other than first edition. Place of publication: Publisher (if unclear add state or county initials); Year of publication. (Series title; and individual volume).

 


Example citations

A book with one author

Bennett DH. Cardiac arrhythmias: practical notes on interpretation and treatment. 7th ed. London: Hodder Arnold; 2006.

A book with two authors

Skarin AT, Saunders M, editors. Colorectal cancer. Edinburgh: Elsevier; 2007.

A book with seven or more authors

List the first six authors and then add “et al”. The authors are listed in the order in which they appear on the title page.

Taylor L, Killoran A, Swann C, Kelly MP, Ellis S, Kanaris A, et al. Public health evidence : tackling health inequalities. New York: Oxford University Press; 2006.

A book by an organisation or institution
