About Us
-
The Library Technology Service is responsible for the delivery of information and communications technology services throughout the Library to meet the needs of its clients.
The service has a central coordination role as well as the responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Library's desktop computing environment, servers and web site hosting, database and software development, and student computer help and training through the Ask I.T. service as well as the eZones located in the Duhig Building, level 1 and level 2.
The Library Technology Service is also responsible for the training and coordination of a system of LITLOS (Library IT Liaison Officers) with representatives in each branch and section. These constitute the first level of problems identification and solution.
The service consists of three functionally based teams:
- Workstation Support Team
- Ask I.T. Service
- Network Services Team
Other staff assigned to special projects and the Library Staff ICT Trainer are also part of the Library Technology Service.

Location and Layout
-
The Library Technology Service operates from Level 6 of the Duhig Building.
Individual services to students are delivered through Ask I.T., which has special service points in the eZone on level 2 within the Duhig Building, at Gatton and at Ipswich. In all other branches, please approach the information desk.
Service Hours
Library Technology Service is staffed during normal office hours, but there is always an on-call person whenever any library is open.
The Library Technology Service maintains over 1,100 public workstations as well as computers for all Library staff. The Library Technology Service also manages the Library's servers and web hosting environment including the Library server, hardware support for the Library Catalogue, proxy servers and software development for services such as the gateway.
Word processing and web access is available on most public computers within the Libraries and clients are able to bring in their own laptops and plug in to the UQ network in a number of Library branches (see the Ask I.T. Laptops page).
Dedicated email workstations are located in some Library branches. On other machines, email access may be restricted to non-core hours.
The Library's public computers are scattered widely thoughout all branches. In most branches there is also an eZone, an area dedicated to computer usage, and which has all the support services in close proximity. Many of these eZones are bookable to use for hands-on computing seminars and tutorials. The eZones in the Duhig Building are on level 2 and level 1
Library Technology Service participates in the provision of appropriate technology for users with disabilities. Computers with special equipment and software are found in the Fryer Library, on Level 4 of the Duhig Building.
Printing and Copying
-
Library Technology Service is responsible for ensuring that all Library Computers at which you can prepare your assignments are set up to print to networked printers.
Printing is done using copy cards. There are automatic card dispensing machines in most Libraries where copy cards can be purchased and value added to existing cards.
