A successful search can result in a single record display screen or in a results list screen.
A results list screen will be displayed like this:
Top section (Search done and buttons to continue searching)
This section of the display shows the various buttons to click on to continue searching. These buttons will change depending on the screen you have reached.
| New search |
Click here to do another type of search, e.g. author, word, subject. In the example above, a title search was done. The current search is reflected in the search boxes under the button bar. |
| Extended display |
If you have done a search other than a Title search, click here to see an expanded display which includes the title. |
| Limit Sort |
Click here to limit your results by year of publication, format, language, publisher, location, title/author/subject keyword, and/or sort your results by year. |
| Keyword Search |
Click here to do a Word search on the same terms used in the last type of search. |
| Another Search |
Click here to do another search of the same type eg. if you did a title search, this will give you a title search screen. |
|
|
Click the down arrow to see a list of previous searches done. Click on any of the searches to return to them. |
Other buttons that may appear on the results list screen:
| Brief |
If you have clicked on the Extended Display button, click here to return to the previous screen. |
| Return to Browsing |
Click here to return to the browse screen. |
Below the button bar are three (sometimes two, depending on the type of search done) boxes that show the search you did to reach this point. In the above example the search was a Title search using the word "sports" done in the Entire collection. These boxes also give you the opportunity to do another type of search (Author/Title/Subject/Keyword/Call Number/ISBN) and/or change the collection to search. Do this by clicking on the grey down arrow at the right of each box and selecting another search type or collection.
There is also a box with the words "System Sorted". This means that currently your results have been sorted by the system (usually alphabetically). If you wish to sort your results by earliest year or latest year first, click on the down arrow and select another option. Then click the Search button. The display will show all the journals first without any dates, and follow these by the earliest or latest dates as chosen.
Underneath this is a checkbox if you want to limit the display only to items that are available for loan.
Below this is a row of numbers that you can click on to jump to that page of the list.
Below this there are two buttons - Save marked records on page and
Save all on page
Click on the first once you have marked some records on the page, or click on the latter to save all the records on the page.
Middle section (Results of search)
In this section the results of your search are displayed. There will be a separate entry for each different occurrence of the title. If more than one entry appears for the same title, they will all be presented on the one line, and the number of entries found shown in the last column on the right (see entry no. 1).
Click on each individual title to see the full record.
Clicking on a title for which more than one entry was found, will display another results list showing the individual entries. Clicking on any of those titles will bring up the full record.
If you wish to select any entry for exporting by email or copying to a floppy disk, click once in the Mark column. When you have finished selecting records, click on the Save marked records on page button at the bottom (and top) of the results list. For more information on copying, see Exporting to disk or emailing records.
If a large number of entries were returned for your search, and you want to jump to a particular entry, you can type a number in the box next to the Go to button. The number that first appears in this box is the total number of entries in the search result. If you have a large result, say 500, and you think what you are looking for may be about halfway, type 250 in the box and click on the button. It will jump to the entry marked 250 which may make finding the right entry a little quicker.
Bottom section (Buttons to continue searching)
In this section, the buttons to continue searching, and the row of numbers that you can click on to jump to that page of the list, are repeated.
