What is Get it at UQ Library?
Get it at UQ Library is a service to provide access to fulltext resources as easily as possible. The service uses a tool called openURL to link from one resource to another, e.g. from an article citation in a database to the fulltext of that article. If UQ Library subscribes to the electronic version, clicking on the Get it at UQ Library link in a database will take you to the fulltext online. If the Library holds the title in print only, or direct linking is not reliable, the link will take you to the UQ Library catalogue record for the title.

Who can use this service?
If you are eligible to use fulltext electronic resources licensed to UQ you will have access to fulltext through the Get it at UQ Library link.

Why didn't the link take me to the fulltext of an article?
Possible reasons include:
- UQ Library does not have an online subscription to this title
- linking has not been set up for this title yet
- the article is too recent to be loaded on the publisher's web site
- linking to articles from this publisher is unreliable and it is better to go via the catalogue
|

When I clicked on the link I was taken to the journal home page, not the fulltext article. Why?
Some publishers do not allow direct linking at journal article level. In this case you will be taken to the journal title or issue and you will need to navigate to the article on the publisher's site yourself. So getting to fulltext may take a few extra clicks.

When I clicked on Get it at UQ Library I was taken to the Library catalogue but there were no matches. Why?
Technical problems on publishers' web sites, errors in databases and the linking process can all mean that fulltext is not always delivered even when UQ holds the material in some format. For this reason the last check for an item is in the UQ Library catalogue. Because we cannot own everything indexed in the databases we provide you will not always find a match. In these cases you can request an item through document delivery if you are eligible.

What do I do when I get a "bad URL" or "Error 404" or some other "not found" message?
As a final check search the Library catalogue for the title of the journal or book. If the title is held please report the problem. If your search is unsuccessful you will need to request the item through document delivery if you are eligible.

Does the Get it at UQ Library link work from home or off-campus?
Most resources available on campus through the Get it at UQ Library link will also be available off-campus to UQ staff and students and registered library members eligible to use those electronic resources licensed to UQ.

What is openURL technology?
openURL technology is a linking syntax that allows information, or metadata, about an item to be passed from an origin (e.g. a database such as Web of Knowledge) to a target (e.g. a publisher's web site such as ScienceDirect). The information passes through an openURL link resolver (UQ uses WebBridge) which interprets the data and passes it to the correct target for delivery of further resources. At UQ we are currently using openURL technology to link from a database, or abstract and indexing service, to fulltext to which UQ subscribes in electronic or print format.

When I click on the Get it at UQ Library link nothing happens. Why?
If you have a pop-up blocker enabled in your browser it may be blocking the target site. You can temporarily allow pop-ups or add the target site to your list of allowed sites. For more information on pop-up blockers go to help

How does Get it at UQ Library work in Google Scholar?
If you are at a UQ site on the UQ network the Get it at UQ Library link will automatically appear for items held by UQ. If you are using Google Scholar off-campus you will need to select UQ Library - Get it at UQ Library at Library Links in Scholar Preferences. You may see 2 Get it at UQ Library links in Google Scholar. The Get it at UQ Library link at the top of the Google Scholar record will link to electronic fulltext. The UQ catalogue link at the bottom of the Google Scholar record will link you to UQ Library catalogue for details of print resources.
