Information Access Service is responsible for obtaining materials and providing the logical organization and arrangement of these materials within the collections of The University of Queensland Library for the benefit of its clients.
Obtaining materials consists of ordering, receiving, and paying for all items received in the library. Providing the logical organization involves the decision-making process to construct logical organization of library materials within collections. Arrangement of materials constitutes the physical maintenance and processing of all items.
Information Access Service is also responsible for providing an effective document delivery supply service to all external libraries and for managing the collection development and circulation policies of the library.
The Service is made up of two teams:
- Information Resources Group
- Access Group
Each team has a processing function in accordance with the statement above, as well as a Library wide function, which includes policy formulation and quality control over all branch libraries.
The Copyright Co-ordinator for the University of Queensland is also housed within the Service.

Information Access Service occupy the northern end of Level 1 of the Duhig Building, numbered 12 on the University map. The area is not accessible to the public. Please ask at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library Information Desk if access is required.
The Information Resources Group is responsible for:
- ordering, receiving, cataloguing, processing invoices for and physically processing all items received by the Library through subscription or on a periodic basis.
- maintaining the online records for these items.
- processing gift and exchange materials.
- obtaining electronic resources, and providing access to them.
- supplying external libraries' requests for materials from the University of Queensland Library collections.
- managing the Warehouse collection, including retrieving items for use by clients.
- through the Senior Manager, Information Resources, maintaining overall control of the Library's collection development policy.
- through the Manager, Document Delivery, managing the document delivery policy of the Library.

The Access Group is responsible for:
- ordering, receiving, cataloguing, processing invoices for and physically processing all monograph items (in all formats) received for all branch libraries.
- maintaining the online records for these items.
- through the Coordinator, Library Membership & Circulation, handling overall membership, circulation complaints and suggestions, notices, account letters and queries, addition and maintenance of patron records, and ordering and distributing library cards.
- through the Web Content Coordinator, maintaining all aspects of intellectual access to the library's collection.
- through the Manager, Access Services, maintaining all aspects of the library system.
