Delivery Time
Material is retrieved from Warehouse 1, 2 and 3 every weekday morning (Monday - Friday), and from Warehouse 4 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Depending on mail delivery, Warehouse items can take 1-3 days to reach the pickup location or to be delivered to you.
Returning Warehouse loans
Warehouse loans should be returned to the branch library where they were picked up.
Access to the collection
Clients who have special research needs may request the loan of journal volumes or to browse the collections in situ. Please contact any branch library to discuss your needs.
Guidelines for transferring material to the Warehouse
The Library adds material to its collection on the basis that this material is intended to be kept permanently.
There is a finite amount of space in each branch library. Approximately 66,000 volumes are added to the collections overall each year. A similar amount of material must therefore be relocated to alternative storage to retain a net balance.
Material is normally relocated to the closed access collection (Warehouse) and occasionally discarded. This statement sets out policy guidelines for this process:
- Material acquired over 12 years ago and not borrowed more than once in the last 5 years, may be withdrawn from open access collections and relocated to the closed access collection.
- Copies of superseded reference manuals and similar materials may be withdrawn. Relocation to the closed access collection is the preferred option.
- Multiple copies of text and reference materials are withdrawn when no longer required for teaching purposes, or replaced by more recent editions. One copy of each will be placed in the closed access collection and the remainder discarded.
- Damaged materials, if they cannot be repaired, may be withdrawn if they can be replaced by another copy or a later edition.
Materials will normally be withdrawn from open access collections only after consultation with the appropriate Faculty.
Material to be discarded under these guidelines will be disposed of by donation to the University of Queensland Alumni Association for resale at
their fundraising book fairs, offered to other libraries or offered to the
overseas aid agency ACPAD.
Relocation of Warehouse items to a Branch Library
Items which have come back into demand can be transferred out of the Warehouse into a branch library collection at any time.
Ask your branch library staff if this is required.
How to get help
