The resources for the School of Dentistry are shared between the Dentistry Library and the Biological Sciences Library. However, the main collection is located in the Dentistry Library. These are supplemented by material held at the Herston Health Sciences Library and the Dorothy Hill Physical Science and Engineering Library.

5. Scope of current collecting

1. Languages collected

The dentistry collection includes English language material only.

2. Types (forms) of materials collected

Dentistry material is collected in all forms, both physical and electronic. The Dentistry Library identifies Internet sites for which links are established to the University of Queensland Library's Website.

3. Chronological periods collected

The library collects material published in the last 10 years. Material is purchased retrospectively, when academic staff specifically requests it.

No forms of material are excluded.

5. Publication dates

The emphasis is on collecting recent publications.

6. Special considerations

The School of Dentistry is in the process of developing a new problem-based learning course in undergraduate dental science to replace the current undergraduate course. The new course is being designed to develop life long learning skills and better prepare students for the profession at large. According to the published literature on problem-based learning, the new course will have a significant impact on the Dentistry Library's resources. A heavy demand on particular resources, together with a need for a wider range of resources is expected.

7. Conspectus

The collection was rated at 3B at the last Conspectus.
