Standards
What is a standard?
Standards are official publications used in industry and trade to describe specifications and procedures. Standards provide rules and recommendations for; quality, safety, performance and construction, codes of practice, methods of testing, symbols and terminology.
Where can I find standards?
The Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library is the main repository of standards for the UQ Library. Some standards are also held at various Branch Libraries. Search the UQ Library catalogue by the title of the standard or a keyword for the standard number, for holdings.
How to search for a standard
Databases
The ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library is a collection of standards and technical engineering information, books and journals. The Library covers a broad range of engineering disciplines, including aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health and safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science, and solar engineering
- Full-text access to all current Australian standards.
- Indexes some international standards e.g. ISO, IEC, DIN, ANSI, ASTM, BSI.
- Some international standards such as ISO and IEC are available for online purchase by the UQ Library.
- In SAI Global click on the 'Request to be unlocked option' and complete the online form. UQ Library will then process your standard request.
- If you are asked to purchase the standard please contact your librarian
- SAI Global on-line premium is available online via the UQ Library catalogue.
- Provides full-text access to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards
- IEEE Xplore Digital Library is available online via the UQ Library catalogue.
