UQ library databases and the internet give you access to statistics.
The major source for Australian statistics is our official statistical
organisation, the Australian Bureau of
Statistics (ABS).
International Statistics can be accessed via several databases that the
library subscribes to. National and international data can also be obtained
via websites, for Australia see the Parliamentary Library's Resource
guide.
Task: Try it yourself!
Try searching for Statistics using the ABS website and the database listed
below.
(a) Go to the ABS website. Access the population statistics
for the suburb you live in or the region you come from. (hint: Use the left
hand menu: Regional Statistics-National Regional Profile).
(b) Use the UQ Library website to access
World Bank data (hint: if you can't find it easily do a title search in the
catalogue). Find Primary school completion rates. (hint: Browse by Topic,
select Education).
For more information on accessing international statistics take a look at
the "Subject
guides" for International Statistics under the Help menu on the Library
homepage. Historical data may not be online but it may be available on
CD-ROMS or in print format, please ask the Librarians for assistance.
