When should I request items held by the library?
If you search the library catalogue, display a catalogue record and discover that the item you want is:
- held by a branch library on your campus and is out on loan
OR
- held by a branch library on another campus (including warehouse)
If you are on the campus where the items are located, you are expected to retrieve them yourself.
If you want to place a hold on one volume of a multivolume set, please ask at the Loans Desk in your branch library.
How do I request items?
1. From a catalogue record, click on the button at the top of the record.
2. Identify yourself by entering your UQ username and UQ password or your Library ID number and Library Password
3. Select a pickup location. Important points to remember:

- You must select a pickup location, otherwise you will asked to enter all your details again
- For items on loan on your campus you must pick up the item at the branch library that has the item. If you do not, the pickup location will be changed to the branch library that holds the item.
- If you are eligible for the External and Remote Service, select it as the pickup location. The item will be mailed to you. Selecting this option if you are not eligible, will result in your request being cancelled.
4. Click on
A list of all
the items the Library has of this title will appear.5. If a copy is available for requesting, the message in the STATUS column will be either:
- AVAILABLE; or
- Due Date (if on loan)
6. Select the item to request by clicking its radio button
7. Click
at
the bottom of the listOne of the following messages will appear:
- If your request is successful:
Your request for of item was successful 
Your request will be delivered to location when it is available - If your request is successful but the item is on loan on your campus and you do not choose its location as your pickup location:
Your request for of item was successful Pickup location changed to location due to library policy 
Your request will be delivered to location when it is available - If you have several copies of the same title, additional requests will be cancelled once the first request is filled.
- If a copy is available on the campus you designated as a pickup location, then the message will be:
- Sorry, request cannot be accepted. local copy is available
8. Click on
to
get back to the catalogue record.
9. You will be notified when the item is ready for collection.
- Your home campus - the pickup location will be the item's branch library
- Another campus - the pickup location will be the one you have nominated
The item will be held for 7 days.
How do I request Fryer theses?
UQ Staff, Students and Alumni Library members:

From a catalogue record click on the
button at the top of the record.

Identify yourself by entering your UQ username and UQ password or your Library ID number and Library password.

Select 'Fryer - for theses only' as the pickup location.
All other registered Library members and non-members:
Please contact Fryer Library staff on:
In person: at the Fryer Library Reading Room Information Desk
Fryer theses are kept in closed access storage and should be requested 4-5 days in advance. Library staff will retreive the items you request and deliver them to the Fryer Library Reading Room.
What if I am a remote student?
1. From a catalogue record, click on button at the top of the record.
2. Identify yourself by entering your UQ username and UQ password.
3. Select the External and Remote Service as the pickup location.
The item will be mailed to you. Please keep your Semester address in my.Si-net up to date. The library will pay the cost of postage to your home address and you must pay the return mail costs.

You can request most categories of materials, except for material lent for seven days or less.
What is a campus?
For the purposes of requesting library items, each of the following sites is regarded as a campus:
- St Lucia
- Gatton
- Ipswich
- Dentistry
- Mater Hospital
- PACE Health Sciences
- Princess Alexandra Hospital
- Herston Health Sciences
- Warehouse
What is the warehouse?
The warehouse is the Library's closed access collection of lesser-used materials that have been transferred from the University of Queensland's branch libraries. The warehouse is located on the Gatton campus and material is retrieved every weekday. For further information on obtaining material from the warehouse please see - warehouse
How do I cancel a request using the web catalogue?
- Click on "My record" on the Library's home page
- At the next screen, enter either your UQ username and password or your Library ID number and Library Password
- Select request (hold)
- Select items to be cancelled
- Click on Cancel Selected Items
