Get Started with Legal Research
Welcome to the Law Online Tutorial!
This tutorial is designed to be a starting point to assist you in developing your legal research skills and in locating legal resources available from the UQ Library.
The tutorial consists of 5 modules covering Getting Started, Secondary Sources, Case Law, Legislation and Legal Referencing.
This module is designed to help you:
- Locate the Walter Harrison Law Library and the Legal Research Guide
- Navigate the Library webpage, search the library catalogue and locate course readings (via the BEL Online Tutorial)
- Outline the legal research strategy
- Determine the difference between secondary and primary sources
- Decipher legal abbreviations
To navigate through the modules click on the arrows at the bottom of each page or use the navigation menu to the left of your screen.
Whether you are a law student or not, anyone is welcome to use this tutorial. Some advanced concepts that are especially important for law students to understand appear in the Case Law and Legislation modules.
