Case Annotations

Remember, cases can be overturned, appealed, not followed, explained, or distinguished etc.

It is important to investigate the judicial history of a case (how the case has been treated by later cases) to determine whether or not it is still considered 'good law'.

Case Citators use symbols which act like 'traffic lights' to alert you to whether there is any judicial history that you need to be aware. These symbols appear after the case name. Hover your mouse over the symbol for an explanation of the status.

Case citators also provide court annotations and symbols which help you to determine how later cases have treated your case. You can download a description of the case annotations here: Download annotations.pdf Download (17.91 KB).

The annotations are meant to be a guide, so it is important that you read the decision in conjunction with viewing the annotations.
