Quiet Spaces and Discussion Spaces

There are different areas of the library for quiet study and for talking in groups.
Green areas are Discussion Spaces. Yellow areas are Quiet Spaces.
Signs will be posted in these areas to remind you.

Quiet Spaces

  • Many students need a quiet area to concentrate!
  • Levels 4 and 5 are Quiet Spaces, and so is the Fryer Reading Room
  • We provide individual desks and rooms for Postgraduate students for quiet study on Levels 4 and 5
  • Please don't talk in these areas. Book a Group Room if you need to talk
  • Please don't answer your phone in a Quiet Space. Go outside if you need to use your phone

Discussion Spaces

  • Many students need space on campus to work together
  • There are 3 Group Discussion rooms on Level 5 in the Fryer Library which can be booked online by Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
  • Please don't be too loud! People still need to concentrate near these areas

Mobile phones

  • We get a lot of complaints about mobile phones in the Library. Please consider how your phone can disrupt other people's concentration
  • Turn your phone to silent as you enter the Library, just in case it rings while you're in a Quiet Space
  • Only answer your phone in a Discussion Space
  • The stairwells are not good places to use your phone, as the sound travels into Quiet Spaces
