In 1929 Bruce Green joined the staff of UQ fresh from school at the age of 14, and went on to give over 50 years service to the University. His only period of absence from the University occurred during World War II. He served briefly with the Royal Australian Air Force and then a number of years with the Australian Military Forces in the Small Ships Section of the Allied Transport Services. |

In 1970 he was awarded an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree in recognition of his service to the University. On his retirement the Senate’s tribute noted that Bruce Green was the first to complete 50 years service as a member of the administrative staff and applauded his role on committees and in developing the campus kindergarten. Having spent so many years at UQ placed him in the unique position of being able to witness and be part of the changes and growth of the University from a small concern at Old Government House to the large and multi-campus internationally recognised concern it is today. | ||||
