As one of the first brick residences in Camp Hill, the Luck family home, built in the mid 1930s, represented a major departure from the traditional forms of tin and timber that had dominated Brisbane suburban architecture since the city’s founding.
Breakthroughs in construction techniques and the falling price of building supplies put brick and tile homes within reach of better paid workers for the first time, although, of course, the Depression ensured there were fewer better paid workers around to exploit the opportunity.
