Donating photograph collections to the Fryer Library

 Digitisation

Fryer Library welcomes offers of photographs in print or digital format. Collections can be donated outright or loaned to the library for digital copying. If donors wish to supply their own digitial copies the preferred form is tiff at 600dpi, although other formats will be considered.

 Online access

Fryer Library aims to make its photograph collections available online through eSpace and Picture Australia. Donors are asked to agree to this as a condition of donation.

 Copyright

Photographs under copyright cannot be reproduced or displayed online without the permission of the copyright owner. The copyright owner is the person (or organisation) who created the work or has lawfully acquired copyright from the creator.

Donors can assist the Library by, where possible, identifying creators and copyright owners. If the donor is the copyright owner, she/he can retain copyright ownership or assign it to Fryer Library as a condition of transfer.

Privacy

Donors are asked to be aware of the possibility that donated material could infringe the privacy of other people or organisations, and might cause hurt or embarrassment or be potentially defamatory. While the library aims to maximise access to its collections, there may be circumstances where it is appropriate to restrict access to particular parts of a collection. Please draw the library's attention to material which could be a problem in this regard.

Descriptions

Without accompanying descriptive information, the historical value of photographs can be significantly diminished. Donors can assist the Library and future researchers by passing on any known information about the photographs and their subjects.
