As many of the works in this exhibition are the only ones of their kind, the critical discussion surrounding them is limited. However, The new media reader provides a comprehensive record of developments in new and experimental media from 1941 to 1994, including some of the books in this exhibition. This is an excellent resource to situate, in a broader context, the ‘unconventionally narrated’ books discussed here.

The new media reader. Eds. Wardrip–Fruin, Noah and Nick Montfort. Cambridge, Mass: MIT Press, 2003
