Photographs from the Hume Family Collection

The Hume family lived at Drayton, Toowoomba, and in Brisbane. Walter Cunningham Hume was a surveyor and Chief commissioner for Lands for Queensland.

The Hume Family Collection contains personal correspondence, photograph albums, travel journals, diaries of various family members, notebooks, and is available within the Fryer Library.

An online exhibition is available at this site, and its introduction provides further information about the Hume family and the collection.

The contents of the photograph albums have been digitised at 150 dpi, and are available here. They comprise family pictures, images of early Brisbane and Toowoomba, overseas travel pictures, and a number of sketches.

Many of the photographs were taken by W.C.Hume, his family and friends; some are commercial photographs.

Search for:

This search capability offered is very limited. Not all of the images have any textual description, and that textual description is sketchy at best - it is currently restricted to the hand-written captions on many of the images in the original albums.

Note: Abbreviations and initials were used extensively, so W.C.Hume will often be found as W.C.H., and Alice Hume as A.K.H.
