Access to electronic newspapers

Dear Sir/Madam,

As part of my doctoral thesis, I am utilising a number of newspaper articles. As I am sure you are aware, the online newspapers have now commenced their subscription-only access. Accordingly, I am no longer able to access the information I need either directly from the newspaper websites, or via, eg, worldnewspapers.com. Noting that the library maintains a link to this website, does the university in fact subscribe to the newspapers it manages? If so, would you please advise as to the username and password required to access it? Alternatively, would you please advise if the university intends to allow access to online newspapers in the near future?

Many thanks for your kind assistance.

Regards,
Ruth

Dear Ruth

It is unfortunate that newspapers now require subscription access to most of their content. Are there certain newspapers in particular you are wanting to access? Is it only newspapers from Australia? Or from around the world? And do you want current issues only or are you looking to go further back?

PressDisplay is an excellent source for reading the current edition (with 60 days of back issues) for a significant number of newspapers. Factiva gives some access but is not a great resource if your information isn't in the business/economics area. While we have access to "free" newspaper websites like "onlinenewspapers.com" and "world newspapers.com" this does not guarantee free access to those papers that require subscription access.

If you wish to have more help with access to particular newspapers please don't hesitate to talk to a librarian in person at any branch library or chat or email with library staff from the library website.

Kind regards

Linda Justo
