Limited book renewals?

Hello

As a remote student currently completing my PhD with UQ, it is very inconvenient having to return books after 3 renewals when I have not finished with them, only to reborrow them, costing both myself and the library unecessary postage costs.

Suggestion: As University of Sydney library has done - they have instituted unlimited renewals unless a book is recalled with the incentive that fines of $10/day apply for books not returned by the recall date.

A good system, with surrogate 'home' storage as well, and I believe a lot smarter.

Thank you for your suggestion and we'll certainly look at what Sydney are doing. At the moment however we need to sight a copy of an item at least once per year to comply with our auditing requirements.

The standard loan period for researchers here at UQ is 84 days with 3 renewals, unless recalled, so this effectively provides for a loan of almost a year.

Library charges are also governed by the University Fee Rules and maximum charges are set out in the Fee Schedule.
