Library classes in the biosciences library during swotvac
I am writing this complaint because I am not satisfied with the library's catering for students studying in swotvac. I was in the biological sciences library on the 30th of october from 8am, until 2 hours later when I was removed from my place because there was a scheduled "end note tutorial for the health sciences" class, for which around 30 people had to leave, to cater for 10 people, leaving many computers and tables unoccupied.
I realise that I failed to read the schedule times for classes for that time period, however I find it unacceptable that the library has scheduled classes during swotvac. Because of this scheduled class, I could not find another area to study, despite arriving at the library at 8am so I could guarantee a spot.
All classes must be scheduled before or after swotvac. The library is used by many students as an environment for study. If people need someone to teach them how to use rather ubiquitous software such as end note, and they do not have the ability to figure it out by themselves using online guides, please schedule it for these people OUTSIDE THE TIMES OF SWOTVAC.
I expect this to be the last time that I am inconvenienced by the incompetence of the biological sciences library.
Thank you

Dear Anon,
I am sorry that you were not satisfied with the access you had to our eZone. I understand that you would have felt frustrated but in order for students to plan where to sit The Library does as you note locate notices outside all our eZones with the times that training will be conducted.
As you can appreciate there are a lot of competing demands on our eZones at all times of the year and we do try to ensure that there is a balance between the demands of undergraduates, postgraduates and staff use and training of the eZones. We do try to minimise training during Swotvac but this is a week which suits some students for training. The other eZones were available for use at the time the Endnote session was run and the Computer availability web page (http://www.library.uq.edu.au/ask-it/computer-availability) provides information about where there are free computers in our libraries to assist you when locating alternative places to sit in the Library.
If you wish to discuss this further please contact me directly my phone number x 3346 4331 and my email is k.borchardt@library.uq.edu.au
Good luck with your exams
Regards
Karen Borchardt
