Books that the library decides to discard
Hi Library
What do you do with books that you decide to discard e.g. books bought more than 10 years ago and not borrowed more than once.
Are the books available for purchase after being discarded?
Thanks for the great service.
Charles

Dear Charles,
Books no longer required on our open access shelves are either removed from the system totally or flagged and moved into a storage (Warehouse) facility. Items in warehouse can be borrowed .
Items to be permanently removed fall into 2 or 3 broad areas. Many are multiple earlier editions of textbooks; older unused or little used single items and then there are those that have been heavily used and are passed their shelf life (we buy a replacement copy of these generally).
We send a lot of titles to the Alumni Book house - that's the UQ Alumni - who arrange a large book sale in the UQ Centre every two (2) years.
We do not sell individual copies ourselves.
Thank you for your inquiry.
