Video casettes

Does the library have any plans to convert its stock of VHS tapes to DVDs? Not only will this make the items more accessible for loans (who has a VHS any more?) but will preserve the vision from the degradation of the tape medium.

Comments

Thank you for your comments. The Library is aware and is tackling the issue of format in the audiovisual area.
We have over 15,000 VHS tapes in the system.
Where possible they are being replaced or converted.

All conversion of content from analogue to digital of our Offair VHS tapes is being carried out within the legal framework of Copyright and other agreements.

I expect that we have another 18 months solid work in this area.
