Purchase Suggestion

Hi, I noticed that there are some incomplete holdings of the Argosy (pulp stories) magazine available in Fryer. About ten years ago, there was a re-print of a large number of Zorro stories by Johnston McCulley that were originally published in Argosy. I think the title is Zorro: Masters Edition. There are two volumes, and they are available in various places. I don't really know if old swashbuckler pulps is something the library prioritises though.

Comments

By the way, I would like to offer my compliments to how quickly and fairly the library assesses book purchase suggestions. All of the book requests I've made in the past that were considered worthwhile were fulfilled in a fairly timely manner.

Fryer Library's main collecting focus is Australiana, so if Johnston McCulley were an Australian author, we would be interested in acquiring the two volume collection of his stories. I have checked the Austlit database, however, and he appears to be American. You are right that the University of Queensland Library has not collected widely in the area of pulp fiction in the past, but we are always interested in supporting research by current staff and students, so if Johnston McCulley is a particular reseach interest of yours, you might want to submit a request for this book through the liaison librarian for your school. Fryer has collected some pulp fiction by Australian authors, such as Carter Brown.
