Hello,
Just wondering why there is no "Insert citation/add bibliography" like tools in Microsoft Word 2010 on library computers. I have this program and it has this function on my computer, and it is very useful for referencing sources, and, in fact, it is probably a good way to reduce plagiarism in the university (reduce accidental plagiarism due to incorrect referencing)
Is there any way this can be put on the computers?
Thanks :)

Hi,
When I go to library.uq.edu.au and click on 'Journals' and then type in a journal title in the search bar and push enter, the results add an additional 'filter=' to the start of my search terms.

For instance if I search 'ecological modelling' the next page shows results for 'filter=ecological modelling'. It happens every time and just started happening today (didn't happen last time I searched via the library website).

Not sure if I'm doing this wrong - it's the same way I used to search for journals.

Cheers,
Will

Hi

I am aware that the library homepage has upgraded today. I love the new settings which put branch opening hours on the top right and others settings such as search bar and news.

There are some personal suggestion to UQL (not sure is it works). I think the bottom part of the library homepage under "explore" is a bit too much information and sometimes difficult to navigate. Some of the information under "explore" I think it can possibly remove to make the section a bit simpler for navigation. This include "location", since the new homepage putting on opening hours of different branches on top right, I think location of branch under "explore" can be removed. The link of "opening hour" of different branch can link to branch information (as the "location" one do instead of redirect another page of opening hour). Further, since the library "search bar" already has the information of "catalogue", "course resource" etc, I think the bottom section of "explore" can also be removed due to duplication and confusion to find other more important information such as "Using the library", "Research support" etc.

Also the "library login" which cover the top right of the page sometimes annoying, as I always like to use my.uq at the top right of the page, if it possible, I would recommend to move it to other area such as the previous location.

Not sure will it works, just my personal suggestion.

Hi there,

In the upstairs law library individual study rooms, ie rooms 10-16 I think, it is very very hot, particularly in room 16. It looks as though there is a vent for air-conditioning; however, it is most certainly not turned on. Is there something that we have to press, such as the after-hours air conditioning buttons in other areas, to get this working.

Thank you kindly.

I have noticed that students have been reserving computers by placing hand-written 'Not Working' signs on the monitors. It would be useful if library staff could check these computers and, if a computer is indeed dysfunctional, to place a GENUINE sign (i.e. with UQ Logo, etc) on the computer indicating its status. And, obviously, if the computer is not dysfunctional, to remove the false advertisement. Alternatively (or perhaps, concurrently), a university-wide email announcement could be made, informing students to ignore all non-official signage.
With the increase in student numbers, I have often noticed many people waiting to use computers, and have often had to wait for one myself to work on an assignment. Although one might applaud their cunning, this behaviour from a few students is unfair to the rest of us.

Hi,
It would be great if you would let us know that books we've been waiting for have arrived via a text message rather than an email. Or if you would offer us the choice of communication method. Quite often, it's not until I get home from uni that I check my email and discover that a book I was waiting for has arrived.
Cheers,
Fiona

I am currently sitting in the SSH library, and it's freezing!

I understand that I am not the only person on this campus, I also understand that it is still quite hot outside, but every year (I've never complained about it) at this period, the air con is way too cold for the overall temperature!

Isn't there a way for you to be able to turn it down a little bit? So that we don't have to wear a ski outfit to the library whenever we want to study in a quiet place?

Thank you for your understanding

Hi,

I'm a current PhD students in the School of Biomedical Sciences.

I came across this book titled 'Determination of Analytes Involved in Red Blood Cell Metabolism by Employing Microfluidics' by Teresa D'Amico Oblak which is highly relevant to my study/research. It would be very beneficial (especially for me) if we can get a copy.

Cheers,

Cortina

To Whom It May Concern:
Please be aware that the free/busy information for workstations in the Biological Sciences library (possibly other libraries also) is inaccurate. This renders the information displays in the library useless.
Yours sincerely,
