Linking to Full-Text Journal Articles from EndNoteThe UQ Library uses a link resolver called WebBridge. This allows users to link directly from a reference to a journal article, which has been located in one database, to the full text of that article which is available on a different database. Your EndNote Library is a database. If you have input, or downloaded, references for journal articles, this new technology allows you to link directly from the EndNote library to the full text of the article. This linking procedure will work if you are on campus or off campus. Off-campus users will be required to authenticate with their normal UQ username and password. Limitations There are some limitations to this procedure: Setting Up EndNote to Work with WebBridge (EndNote X3 and later versions) Open EndNote, and click on Edit on the top menu bar. From the drop-down menu, select Preferences. When the Preferences window opens, click on Find Full Text on the left-hand side. Then check the box labelled OpenURL. Below this, in the box labelled OpenURL Path, delete the existing text and enter the following: Now click on URLs & Links on the left-hand side of the Preferences window. In the box labelled OpenURL Arguments, delete the existing text and enter the following:
If you have copied and pasted the above text, remove any line breaks after you paste it into the box. It should be one continuous string of text. The screen should now look something like the following image.
Click on the OK button to save these changes. Setting Up EndNote to Work with WebBridge (EndNote 7 to EndNote X2) Open EndNote, and click on Edit on the top menu bar. From the drop-down menu, select Preferences. When the Preferences window opens, click on URLs and Links (or OpenURL/PDF or OpenURL in earlier versions) on the left-hand side. When the OpenURL pane is displayed, check the box labelled Enable OpenURL. In the first box (OpenURL Path), delete the existing text and enter the following: In the second box (Arguments), delete the existing text and enter the following:
If you have copied and pasted the above text, remove any line breaks after you paste it into the box. It should be one continuous string of text. The screen should now look something like the following image. There may be slight variations, depending upon which version of EndNote you are using.
Click on the OK button to save these changes. Connecting to Full-Text Articles from EndNote To connect to the full text from a reference in your library, you must first highlight the reference (in earlier versions of EndNote, you have to double click on the reference to open it). Then click on References on the top menu bar. Use the drop-down menu to select URL and then OpenURL Link. (In earlier versions of EndNote, just click on OpenURL or OpenURL Link.) See the following illustration.
EndNote will send a message to WebBridge, which will attempt to locate the full text of the article. Providing that the EndNote reference contains the ISSN (International Standard Serial Number), one of two things should happen: Note for Users of Pubmed If you download references from the Pubmed database, be sure to use the latest version of our Pubmed filter, or alternatively use the Pubmed connection file on our connection files page. This is to ensure that the International Standard Serial Number imports without any qualifying terms which would interfere with the operation of WebBridge. | |||||
