Sometimes you want to include references in the bibliography at the end of the document which you have not actually cited in the text. This may occur with author/date styles (e.g. Harvard, APA) or footnote styles (e.g. Chicago).

Using an Author/Date Style

At the very end of your document (but before the bibliography), insert all the citations that have not appeared elsewhere in the text of the document. Insert them one after another, preferably each on a separate line.

Click on the first citation to highlight it, then use the EndNote Edit Citation(s) command.

When the dialogue box opens, check the boxes for Exclude author and Exclude year. Then click on the OK button.

The citation will no longer appear in the text of the document, but it still appears in the bibliography.

Use the same procedure for all the other citations that you do not want to appear in the text.

Beware: These citations are still present in the field codes at the end of your document. Be careful when doing any editing in that secion of your document.

Using a Footnote Style

At the very end of your document (but before the bibliography), insert into the text all the citations which you have not entered into the footnotes. Insert the citations one after another, preferably each on a separate line.

Because you are using a footnote style, references inserted in the text of your document will not format, but they will appear in the bibliography at the end of the document. No further editing is required.

Beware: Although you cannot see these citations in the text of your document, they are still present in the field codes at the end of your document. Be careful when doing any editing in that section of your document.
