The University of Queensland Library
EndNote - Obtaining and Installing EndNote

The University of Queensland Library has negotiated a site licence for EndNote, which permits all eligible staff and students of the University to use the software both at work and at home.

Extension of licence to clinical or adjunct positions

The licence has been extended to permit use by any employee of Queensland Health or the Mater Hospital who also has a clinical or adjunct title with the University of Queensland. These users are now also permitted to install and use a copy of the software on a single computer owned/operated by Queensland Health for the purposes of their UQ related work or research.

    Information for Queensland Health Employees

EndNote is not part of the SOE (Standard Operating Environment). QH employees have to request the software from the QH Service Desk, phone 1800 198 175. The current version is X2.0.1. QH has purchased licenses to cover 1000 individual and 100 workstations. The latter means departments can load it onto one computer and different staff can use it. The software can be installed on a home computer but QH employees need to request a CD of EndNote from the QH Service Desk.

    Information for Mater Employees

EndNote is not part of the SOE (Standard Operating Environment). Mater employees need to contact the Mater IT Help Desk, phone 3163 8802 to request help installing the software. UQ employeers need to use their UQ username and password to access downloading the software.

Obtaining EndNote

Existing users of EndNote wishing either to reinstall EndNote or to upgrade to the latest version of EndNote will also need to complete the online Licence Agreement. After completing the online Licence Agreement, UQ Staff and UQ Students can download the software.

Installation Information

1. Information for Upgrading to EndNote X2.0.1

  • There are backward compatibility issues with the software. Once you have converted your data to EndNote X2.0.1 you cannot easily go back to EndNote 7 or earlier versions.
  • There are no serious backward compatibility issues with EndNote 8 and later versions. However if you want to send your EndNote library to a colleague who has an earlier version of EndNote, make sure that you send the .DATA folder as well.
  • You also cannot run two versions of the software on the same computer.
  • Please read our upgrade notes on EndNote X2.0.1 to find out about the new features. If you are upgrading from a version earlier than EndNote X1, also read the notes on new features in any intervening version(s) that you did not install. Check with Ask I.T. staff if you have any questions about upgrading.
  • Staff and students engaging in group work or collaborative writing must ensure that all members are using compatible versions of EndNote.

2. Check System and hardware requirements (for Windows or Macintosh) and Word processor compatibility (for Windows or Macintosh) before you install EndNote on your computer.

3. If you have a previous EndNote installation (either Windows or Macintosh), it is advisable that you uninstall the older version of EndNote before you install the new version.

NOTE: Before you begin, make sure to back up custom styles, filters, connection files and libraries.

If you have any enquiries about obtaining or downloading EndNote please contact UQ EndNote Help
