Module 4: Putting it all together
Once you have found the information you need - what do you do next?
The previous modules have shown you the basic principles involved
in finding information so it's now up to you to use it
well when you
begin to write. This module gives you a few hints prior
to writing
and some final points on referencing and plagiarism.
4.1 Evaluate your information
- Read through everything you have gathered.
- Evaluate all of your information methodically.
- Take notes to summarise the main points in your own words.
- Read through your notes to ensure that you are clear about
the content and implications of what you have read.
- Discuss the concepts with others - with other students if
possible or with anyone who is prepared to listen. A few minutes
spent explaining something to another person will often help
to clarify your understanding.
- Relate what you have found back to the original topic.
- Is it to the point?
- Does it cover all aspects of the topic?
- Is it enough?
- If not, search again.
- Check your search strategy.
- Think of some new keywords.
- Try a different database.
