Home » EndNote » MLA 3rd edition Output Style

Note the following points when using the uq_mla_3rd output style:

All references should have an indication of the Medium in the Label field. The most common media are: Print, Web, DVD, Videocassette, Television, Radio, MS [for manuscript].

If you are already using the Label field for some other purpose, you can select another field which appears in all EndNote reference types (e.g. Accession Number, Call Number). You must then open the output style for editing and go to the Bibliography|Templates section. In each template, replace the field name Label with the name of the field which you wish to use for the medium.

All references accessed via the web must have data in the Date Accessed field, e.g. 29 Nov. 2007

If a journal uses issue numbers only, put the issue number in the Volume field.

Journal articles accessed on the web should have the Electronic Article reference type. If the full text of the article is stored on a database, put the name of the database in the Name of Database field, e.g. JSTOR, Project Muse. If the article is not paginated, enter “n. pag.” in the Pages field.

For editions of texts (e.g. Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson, edited by Mabel Loomis Todd and T.W. Higginson), we recommend that you use the Ancient Text reference type, because it includes fields for both Author (of the original text) and Editor. Use the Publication Title field for a series title (e.g. The Arden Shakespeare).

For a thesis, enter the text Diss in the Thesis Type field if the thesis is at doctoral level. Otherwise enter the appropriate degree, e.g. MA thesis.

References with no discernible year of publication should have the following text in the Year field: n.d.
