The EndNote Folder Locations specify where the Filters, Styles and Connection Files that you use are located on your computer. The Folder Locations can be modified by clicking on Edit on the top menu bar in EndNote, and then clicking on Preferences and Folder Locations. When you install EndNote, the default Folder Locations are in the Program Files area on your C: drive. However if you wish to download new filters, styles and connections, or if you wish to modify existing filters, styles and connections, you may need to change the Folder Locations. The procedure depends on the version of EndNote which you are using and on the operating system: EndNote X2 and later versions You should use the Filters, Styles and Connection folders located at: If you have upgraded from EndNote X1, or an earlier version of EndNote, your Folder Locations may not be correct. In EndNote, click on Edit|Preferences|Folder Locations to check. If necessary, click on the EndNote Defaults button to set up the new folders. Versions up to EndNote X1 (using Windows Vista) Vista will not allow the user to save files to the Program Files area. This is the area where the EndNote Filters, Styles and Connections folders are installed. If you wish to download additional filters, styles or connection files, you will have to change the location of your Filters, Styles and Connection folders to the Documents area of the hard drive. You then have to amend the preferences in EndNote to reflect this. For example, if you want to download some additional filters, you must find the EndNote Filters folder in the Program Files, copy that folder, and paste it into the Documents area. Then you can download the additional filters and save them in the new folder. Then go to EndNote and click on Edit on the menu bar. From the drop-down menu select Preferences. When the Preferences window opens, look for the section named Folder Locations. The default Folder Location for your Filters folder is in the Program Files area. You must browse to locate the new folder in the Documents area, and select the new folder. The same procedure applies if you want to download extra styles or connection files. Versions up to EndNote X1 (using Windows XP) You can use the default folder locations. You do not have to amend the EndNote Preferences. Save your new or edited files in the following folders: |
